The Mathews High School varsity football team fell to 1-3 overall following a 21-7 loss on Friday night to Washington and Lee.

The Devils’ only score came in the third quarter, with Chris Davis capping off a Mathews drive with a 1-yard TD run. Kicker Ryan Morgan added the extra point.

Mathews had an opportunity to challenge the Eagles in the fourth quarter. Trailing 14-7, the Devils had the ball and were moving downfield, "but we didn’t make it happen," MHS head coach Paul White said.
