GHS golfers leading district after three matches

Gloucester High School golfers are leading the Peninsula District by just under 50 strokes after the first three matches on the 2010 schedule.

The Dukes opened the season with a 325 team score at Williamsburg National on Aug. 10, with Bethel and Kecoughtan trailing with 352 each. Grinnan Haskins led Gloucester at Williamsburg with a score of 75. Behind him were Zack Robb with 76, Trevor Rudisill with 83 and Tyler Foster with 90.

The Dukes also won their second match last Thursday at Kiln Creek, posting a team score of 321. Woodside was second with 340. Robb had the top Gloucester score at Kiln Creek at 77, followed by Haskins with 78 and Foster and Zack Kounse with 83 each.

Robb was the medalist Tuesday morning with a 71 on the par 72 Marsh Hawk course at Ford’s Colony but Gloucester finished with a second-place score of 335, just one stroke behind Woodside.

Haskins was second for the Dukes at Ford’s Colony with an 87, followed by Foster with an 87 and Kyle Flippin with 90. The PD golfers were slated to play at Kiskiack yesterday and head to the Piankatank River Golf Club on Tuesday.
