Gloucester High School wrestlers closed the regular season with a pair of wins on Jan. 19 at Hampton, beating both Denbigh and the host Crabbers.
The Mathews High School girls’ basketball team picked up easy wins over Essex (47-18) and King William (61-30), falling on Saturday to AA Grafton by a 67-47 margin.
The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team split a pair of games in the past week, falling to Essex, 62-50, and beating Tidewater District foe King William, 60-54.
Gloucester High School indoor track athletes added to their list of Peninsula District Meet qualifiers and personal records during the second meet of the season on Jan. 10 at the Boo Williams Sports Complex in Hampton.

Gloucester High School wrestlers dominated Kecoughtan, 65-12, but lost a close 38-30 contest with Phoebus in a Peninsula District tri-match at GHS on Jan. 5.
Four Gloucester High School track athletes had Peninsula District Meet qualifying performances at the Christopher Newport University Showcase meet last weekend. Fifty-five teams and 1,200 athletes participated in the event.
The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team dropped its second game of the season to Lancaster on Saturday, as the visiting Red Devils posted a 71-51 victory.
