Duke wrestlers hold 7-2 district record

Gloucester High School wrestlers closed the regular season with a pair of wins on Jan. 19 at Hampton, beating both Denbigh and the host Crabbers.

Lady Devils go 2-1 in recent action

The Mathews High School girls’ basketball team picked up easy wins over Essex (47-18) and King William (61-30), falling on Saturday to AA Grafton by a 67-47 margin.

Devils top Cavs, 60-54

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team split a pair of games in the past week, falling to Essex, 62-50, and beating Tidewater District foe King William, 60-54.

GHS indoor track athletes qualify for district meet

Gloucester High School indoor track athletes added to their list of Peninsula District Meet qualifiers and personal records during the second meet of the season on Jan. 10 at the Boo Williams Sports Complex in Hampton.

MHS wrestlers drop two, beat W&L

The Mathews High School wrestling team dropped a pair of dual matches, and also posted a win over Washington and Lee in recent action.

Devils lose triple-overtime thriller to West Point

Mathews High School fell to West Point last Wednesday in a triple-overtime basketball thriller, 90-87.

Jayvee Devils split district games

Last Wednesday, the Mathews High School jayvee boys basketball team defeated West Point on the road, 57-27.

GHS wrestlers crush Kecoughtan, fall to Phantoms

Gloucester High School wrestlers dominated Kecoughtan, 65-12, but lost a close 38-30 contest with Phoebus in a Peninsula District tri-match at GHS on Jan. 5.

Four from GHS qualify for district track meet

Four Gloucester High School track athletes had Peninsula District Meet qualifying performances at the Christopher Newport University Showcase meet last weekend. Fifty-five teams and 1,200 athletes participated in the event.

Mathews falls to Red Devils, 71-51

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team dropped its second game of the season to Lancaster on Saturday, as the visiting Red Devils posted a 71-51 victory.
