MHS girls fall in regional semifinals

For the second year in a row, the Lady Devils’ varsity basketball season ended in the regional semifinals, in the same gym against the same opponent.

A skateboarding contest for ages 12 to 18 will be held Saturday at Brown Park in Gloucester.

Skateboard park receives new equipment

The skateboard facility at Brown Park, located off Route 14 near the Gloucester village, was recently expanded.

VMRC continues by-catch fishery for shad; flounder minimum cut

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission voted to continue a limited by-catch for American shad for 2011 during a meeting Feb. 22 in Newport News.

Gloucester 4-Hers compete in horse contests

Members of the GLOCO Horse and Saddle Smarts 4-H clubs in Gloucester competed in the annual Block and Bridle event at Virginia Tech on Feb. 18 and 19 and at the Red Baron Riders Hippology in Virginia Beach last Saturday.

Four MHS wrestlers place at state meet

Four Mathews High School wrestlers placed at the state tournament, which was held on Friday and Saturday at the Salem Civic Center.

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team, after winning its final two games, came up short against West Point Monday night, 43-28, in a playoff for the Tidewater District regular season crown.
