Over $12,000 raised in Wharf to Wharf swim

Fifty-eight swimmers, some coming from as far away as Roanoke, Charlottesville, North Carolina, Northern Virginia, Maryland, Richmond and Virginia Beach, took part in Sunday’s fourth annual L. Wayne Hudgins Memorial Wharf to Wharf Swim.

MHS volleyball improves to 11-1

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team picked up its 10th and 11th victories of the season this past week on the road, over Northern Neck District opponents Northumberland and Essex.

Jayvee Devils beat Northumberland, Essex

The Mathews High School jayvee volleyball team picked up a couple non-district wins this past week, beating Northumberland and Essex in a pair of road games.

Garcia, Brown win Market Days 5K

Fifty-two runners, ages 3 to over 60, took part in the ninth annual Mathews Market Days 5K Race and Junior Mile, held Saturday at Williams Wharf Landing and hosted by the Mathews Land Conservancy.

MHS runners crush competition in debut

The Mathews High School boys and girls cross country teams had a strong opening to the 2010 season, with the boys sweeping the first seven places and the MHS girls taking the top five over district rivals King William and West Point on Sept. 8 at Beaverdam Park.

The Gloucester High School girls’ volleyball team opened the Peninsula District season with a win at Denbigh on Monday.

Lady Devils hitting mid-season stride

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ volleyball team is hitting its mid-season stride with wins over Northern Neck opponents Essex and Lancaster.
