The event raised $1,600 to help establish a scholarship fund in the memory of former GHS teacher Joyce Bascombe who died in January.
To challenge the young rowers, the GHS coaches entered them in varsity events and the Dukes placed in both.

The team beat Woodside 5-4 on Tuesday and Hampton 7-2 last Thursday.
The Mathews Girls’ Tennis Team battled hard but suffered a tough loss of 4-5 against Rappahannock last Thursday.
Late in the second, Menchville landed its first goal and five minutes later added another.
The teams fought hard to take home a 10th place finish for the girls, with 14.33 points, and a seventh place spot for the boys, with 44.5 points.
The Dukes will get a chance to break the tie tomorrow when they are scheduled for another meeting with Menchville in Newport News.
The team has been battling scheduling conflicts and the weather to get practices and games in.
