Abingdon Elementary School was the target of vandals during the spring break last week. Gloucester Sheriff’s deputies responded to an alarm at the school around 10:45 p.m. last Thursday and found several outdoor lights that illuminate the front drive had been vandalized.
Peering through windows, deputies saw a broken computer monitor and once inside they found several other computer monitors had been knocked over in one classroom. School division assistant superintendent John Hutchinson said most of the monitors were not damaged and overall the vandalism resulted in a less than $200 loss, not including the time required to make repairs.
After finding no further damage, Hutchinson said school division facilities manager Dave Miller and a deputy checked all of the exterior doors and made sure the school was secure that night.
