A committee has been empaneled to assist with the selection of a new principal for Thomas Hunter Middle School to replace Michael Comer. Comer, who has served as principal for the past four years, announced his retirement at the school board’s February meeting.
The committee includes several teachers and other middle school employees, parents, school board members Ginger Richards and Lanell Jarvis, assistant superintendent Nancy Welch, and county administrator Mindy Moran.
Applications are being received at the school board office through Sunday, Welch said, with interviews to be held on April 18 and 19. Superintendent of Schools David J. Holleran will receive the names of the top candidate or candidates and is expected to make his recommendation to the school board by its May meeting.
