The Gloucester County School Board was not very receptive last week to an alternative to a full-sized detached gymnasium to serve the new Page Middle School and a new high school if built down the road.
Gloucester school superintendent Ben Kiser presented the idea during the school board’s meeting Feb. 12 after hearing from the county’s board of supervisors earlier this month. Supervisors may support a detached facility in lieu of expanding the gym at the planned Page school because of the tight time frame in getting the school open.
Kiser had the architect look at the section of property between the new middle school and the site where a new high school may eventually be built.
Kiser presented two options. One is to start with a smaller footprint with the possibility of expanding it down the road, or to build a larger facility from the start.
