Thomas Hunter Middle School sixth grader Edward Wade was presented the Above and Beyond Award by the Kiwanis Club of Middlesex and the Mathews branch of Chesapeake Bank at a Feb. 8 assembly at THMS.

Mathews High School senior Lauren Perreault was recognized as the school’s Student of the Month for February. She received her plaque from the Kiwanis Club of Middlesex and a $25 gift card from the Mathews branch of Chesapeake Bank at the Kiwanis Club’s Feb. 11 dinner meeting.

The following local students were named to the fall semester dean’s list at Radford University: Jess Lauriault Lackes of Gloucester, a senior sociology major; Tara Alexandra Peaks of Gloucester, a senior communication science and disorders major; Kaitlyn Leigh Reynolds of Gloucester, a senior exercise, sport and health education major; Haley Marie Beatley of Mathews, a junior dance major; Kelsey Lynn Gibbs of Hayes, a junior interdisciplinary studies major; and Christian S. Mahoney of Hayes, a junior exercise, sport and health education major. The recognition requires a 3.4 or higher grade point average.

Katie Slavnik of Gloucester, recently graduated from Fort Hays State University with a bachelor of general studies degree with an emphasis in human services.

Seth Joseph Theuerkauf received a bachelor of science degree in biology and environmental science from the College of William and Mary in December, graduating summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and with honors in research and biology. While at William and Mary, Theuerkauf co-founded the Marine Science Society and founded the William and Mary student section of the Marine Technology Society. He was also a member of Mortar Board National Honor Society, order of Omega Greek Leadership Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. In addition, Theuerkauf completed a biology honors thesis through the James Monroe Scholar program and the William and Mary Roy R. Charles Honors Fellowship program. A 2009 graduate of Gloucester High School, Theuerkauf will begin graduate studies in the fall. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Theuerkauf of Gloucester.
