The Mathews Family YMCA will join with Hands Across Mathews, the Mathews County Department of Social Services and others to take part in the Bright Beginnings program, providing school supplies and clothing to needy Mathews children.

The YMCA’s goal this year is to pick up the cost for five children, with the busload of children and volunteers going to Walmart on Aug. 10. Afterwards, the entire group will enjoy lunch together at Thomas Hunter Middle School. Those interested in being volunteer shoppers or making a donation may call Sheila Pillath at 725-1488 for more information.

The YMCA’s specialty camps are ongoing. Today is the deadline to register for Camp S.A.F.E., which will be held on Aug. 2-6. Next Thursday, Aug. 5 is the deadline for the Outdoor Adventure Camp, which will be held on Aug. 9-13. For information about times and fees, call the YMCA at 725-1488.
