Nicholas Zullo of Gloucester, received a bachelor of arts degree in communication from Virginia Tech during the fall commencement ceremony in December.

Kathryn Sutton of Hayes, received the Irene Burt Boole Botany Scholarship during the annual Honors Day Ceremony at Georgia Southern University. Awards were presented to 192 GSU students during the ceremonies.

Hilary Dixon of Gloucester Point, presented her research on "Telepresence and Performance" at the 35th Annual Beloit College Student Symposium on April 14. Dixon’s presentation examined how we use technology to mediate our social relationships and to interact with others in distant or virtual spaces. She is majoring in anthropology at Beloit.

Justin Darnell of Gloucester, a student at Christopher Newport University, Gloucester High School student Christina Tuculet and Mathews High School student Leeann Southworth are among the winners of the 2011 Awards of Achievement presented by the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. The awards recognize seniors from Virginia high schools and colleges for academic excellence in accounting studies. The winners are selected by accounting faculty at their respective schools.

Annaleese Kidd Harrison, a seventh grader at Thomas Hunter Middle School, was accepted into the Summer Enrichment Program at the University of Virginia. The program, for gifted and/or high ability students, is for rising fifth through 11th graders.
