Screening for Mathews County students entering kindergarten in the fall will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. next Wednesday, April 25, at Lee-Jackson Elementary School.

Each child who is eligible to enroll must be screened as part of the registration process. A child must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2018 to attend kindergarten.

This screening includes checking the child’s speech, gross motor and fine motor skills. Parents will be asked to fill out a Mathews County Public Schools’ registration form and a questionnaire that coincides with the screening. The screening process should take about an hour.

Parents are asked to bring the child’s original birth certificate, original Social Security card, and evidence of residency to registration. A physical examination by a licensed physician and evidence of immunization is also required before the child begins school in September, but is not needed for the screening.
