The Kiwanis Club of Middlesex (which also serves the students of Mathews County) presented two monthly awards to recognize outstanding Mathews High School seniors for the fall semester.
The first award was presented to Rachel Corrigan. Home schooled until the 10th grade, upon entering MHS she hit the ground running, participating in cross country (where she has been captain the last two years), class vice president, a member of the forensics team and Key Club and attended the American Patriot Leadership Conference.
She also serves as a staff writer on the school newspaper and has progressed to editor-in-chief for the last two years. She also attends the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School. To top it off, Rachel is younger than her peers; she is just 16 years old.
