Laura Elizabeth Bridges of North, will perform with the James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes in the 25th annual London New Year’s Day Parade during the band’s Dec. 27-Jan. 4 European tour. More than 250 of the Marching Dukes’ 447 members are making the trip to join about 24 other bands in the silver anniversary parade, which is expected to draw more than 8,000 performers from around the world. The London parade attracts more than 500,000 spectators, according to parade organizers.

Aryah Hudgins, a senior at Mathews High School, was the recipient of the Kiwanis Club of Middlesex’s Student of the Month Award for December. An actor who has appeared in local shows since the third grade, Hudgins held the title role in the Court House Players’ recent production of "Cinderella." Hudgins has been active in the Mathews High School theater program, as well as the school’s Beta and Key clubs. The Kiwanis Club presented her a plaque and the Mathews branch of Chesapeake Bank gave her a certificate for a savings bond.
