On Saturday, Dec. 7, Scoutmaster David Olson and several members of Boy Scout Troop 113 worked in the cold and rain, performing community service to Gloucester County by cleaning out the historic Woodville School.

The seven young men from the Boy Scout Troop, one young woman and eight adult leaders, along with Wesley Wilson, Warren Deal and the Rev. Fred Carter of the T.C. Walker-Woodville/Rosenwald School Foundation, spent the day removing kitchen cabinets, plumbing and appliances, as well as the plumbing fixtures in the bathroom, including a cast-iron footed tub.

Woodville School, on Route 17 in Ordinary, is one of seven schools built by the Rosenwald School Foundation in Gloucester County and is one of only a handful still standing among about 5,000 built throughout the South. In 2002, the Rosenwald Schools were put on the list of endangered places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Cleaning out the building is the first step in its preservation.
