The Gloucester County School Board will need about $3.5 million for work at the former T.C. Walker Elementary School in order to ready it for school administration offices, according to estimates provided to the board last week. The board also voted unanimously last Thursday to rename the school the T.C. Walker Educational Center.

The Walker work estimate includes $2.7 million for construction, $450,000 in new furnishings and $227,910 in design fees. Of the construction estimate, $1.9 million is for renovations to turn classrooms into office spaces so that the school administration can move out of the county building it now occupies. The county has said it needs the offices for its own employees.
