The Thrifty Spot, a thrift store run by Mathews High School special education students, opened its doors to the public Wednesday, Dec. 8, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Those cutting the ribbon were, from left, Michael Jones, Schools Superintendent David J. Holleran, Cathy Walker and Louis Padilla. The store, which is located near the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad building at Hudgins, is open during school hours. Photo by Betty Wrenn Day
