RCC class to study local digs

The Rappahannock Community College (RCC) Educational Foundation’s Rappahannock Institute for Lifelong Learning (RILL) will present "Archaeology and Early Virginia Landscapes" as one of its Fall 2010 offerings, on Sept. 24 and Oct. 15 (Fridays) in Gloucester. The course will examine archaeological research that provides new perspective on the physical layout and evolution of past landscapes, said RCC spokesperson Tom Martin. Students will visit two significant sites in Gloucester County—Powhatan’s 1607 capital at Werowocomoco and Lewis Burwell II’s 1694 manor house Fairfield and plantation—and discuss recent findings. Instructors David Brown and Thane Harpole will lead the course.
