The Epsilon Eta chapter of the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority will be honoring teachers who have been "Pioneers in Education" during an American Education Week luncheon at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, at First Morning Star Baptist Church’s Godwin Fellowship Hall, Bena.

The honorees are Marian Carter, Dr. Louise D. Cosby, Martha Hughes, Audrey Hunter, Stanley McMullen, Bernice Thomas and Florene White. All of the honorees taught in Gloucester County Public Schools, with some starting at the all-black Thomas C. Walker School, which housed grades 1-12.

Dr. Doris Browning Austin, national president of Iota Phi Lambda, will be the guest speaker for the luncheon. LaVerne Forrest is chapter president. Proceeds will benefit the chapter’s scholarship fund.

Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., is the first African American Greek-lettered business sorority established by African American business women. There are now more than 100 chapters with membership numbering more than 5,000 in 85 cities and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
