Chelsea Clifford graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in biology from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., during commencement ceremonies June 12. She was also selected for the Mortar Board and Sigma Xi national honor societies. Mortar Board recognizes students who have combined distinguished scholarship, leadership, and service to their colleagues and the Carleton College community. Sigma Xi elects its members based on demonstrated evidence of research potential in a field of pure or applied science. Clifford is the daughter of Chris and Polly Clifford of Gloucester.

Jared M. Purcell received the American Citizenship Award for the junior class at Randolph-Macon Academy. He was also named to the dean’s list for the fourth quarter, a recognition that requires a 3.3 or higher grade point average. Additionally, Purcell was named a member of "The Academy’s Own" for his volunteer hours dedicated to the R-MA admission’s department. Members of The Academy’s Own give tours, answer questions and host new students in classes and dorms. Purcell is the son of Terry and Ellen Forbes of Mathews, and the grandson of Carol Sharp of Gwynn’s Island.
