Emily Wingrove of Gloucester, received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., during commencement exercises May 13. Wingrove completed major studies in English and broadcast journalism. She is currently in a marketing internship in Miami.

Ryan K. Butler was named to the fall and spring semester dean’s lists at Old Dominion University where he is majoring in mass communications. The recognition requires a 3.5 or higher grade point average. Butler is the son of Cephus and Maxine Butler of Gloucester, and the grandson of Naomi Smith of Mathews, and Mary Butler of Lancaster.

Robert Kruger Bressin of Gloucester, graduated cum laude from Longwood University with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry during commencement ceremonies May 14. Bressin was also named to the spring semester dean’s list at Longwood, a recognition that requires a 3.5 or higher grade point average.

Amanda Jo Anne Sawyer of Gloucester, graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree from Longwood University during commencement ceremonies May 14.

Mary Kathleen DeForge of Mathews, graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree from Longwood University during commencement ceremonies May 14.

Mackenzie Katelyn Stickney of Gloucester, received a bachelor of science degree in social work from Longwood University during commencement ceremonies May 14.

Jennifer Marie Harris of Moon, received a master of science degree in education from Longwood University during commencement ceremonies May 14.

Farley Gray Marshall of Gloucester, and Katlin Marie Major of Saluda, were each named to the spring semester dean’s list at Longwood University. The recognition requires a 3.5 or higher grade point average.

Jazmine Jones of North, was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Mary Baldwin College. The recognition requires a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.74.

Rachel Carrington Finney of Gloucester, was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. The recognition requires a 3.6 or higher grade point average.

Anna Fisher, a student at Yorktown Middle School, was selected to participate in the U.S. Naval Academy’s STEM program. STEM is an overnight academic camp for rising eighth through 11th grade students in good academic standing who have an interest in math and science. Approximately 375 students from around the U.S. have been selected to participate in this summer’s program.

Jennifer Marie Lakin, a 2007 graduate of Mathews High School, received a bachelor of arts degree in art history, with a minor in fine arts, from The Ohio State University during commencement exercises on June 12. She is the daughter of Tom and Linda Lakin of Mathews. Lakin will be working in Mathews during the summer, with plans of moving to Boston in the fall.
