Richard B. Keithley received a doctoral degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina during commencement ceremonies May 8. Keithley has accepted a position as a postdoctoral research assistant with the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence A. Keithley Jr. of Gloucester, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence A. Keithley Sr. of Yorktown.
Joshua P. Smith received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the College of William and Mary during commencement ceremonies May 15. While at W&M, Smith was inducted into the Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity. He is the son of Patsy S. Powell of Achilles, and the late Charles R. Smith Jr.
Cole Tomlinson was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Christopher Newport University where he is majoring in environmental science. The recognition requires a 3.5 or higher grade point average. Tomlinson is the son of Jeff and Shelly Tomlinson of Gloucester.
Jonathan Pierce graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in biological science from Virginia Tech in December. Pierce then spent two months assisting with a medical clinic in Honduras and will attend medical school at Virginia Tech in the fall. He is the son of Laura and Steve Pierce and the grandson of Ella Brown, all of Mathews.
Joshua Pierce, who works as a dental hygienist with a Northern Virginia dental practice, is spending five months with the Mercy Ship medical team in Sierra Leone, Africa, attending the dental needs of the residents there. He is the son of Laura and Steve Pierce and the grandson of Ella Brown, all of Mathews.
Lucy Alice Crook graduated magna cum laude and received a bachelor of arts degree from Roanoke College during commencement ceremonies May 7. At Roanoke, Crook was an honors program graduate and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society and the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. She also received the Outstanding Woman Scholar in Education Award from the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the Mack Welford Award from Roanoke College, an Alpha Lambda Delta Senior Certificate and a Teacher of Promise Award from the Virginia Department of Education. Crook is the daughter of Charles R. Crook and Mary H. Hoffman-Crook of Gwynn.
Krista Van Liew of Hayes, received a bachelor of science degree in biology from Christopher Newport University during commencement ceremonies May 15. Van Liew will attend medical school in Arizona in the fall.
Jessica Grace Felthousen graduated summa cum laude and received a bachelor of science degree in biology from Marymount University during commencement ceremonies May 8. Felthousen is employed at VCU Massey Cancer Center in Richmond where she is conducting research in therapeutic drug treatments. She is the daughter of Kathy and Steve Garrett of Dutton.
