Cub Scout Pack 124, Mathews, held its annual Pinewood Derby on Jan. 25 in the Thomas Hunter Middle School/Lee-Jackson Elementary School cafeteria. In the competition, the boys race wooden cars they design and build, competing in speed, originality and craftsmanship. Winning the races were, from left, third-place finisher Ryan McDaniel, second-place finisher Daniel Moughon and first-place winner Cooper LaCasse. Standing behind the boys are den leaders Bobby Layden, at left, and Michael Calautti. Winning awards for originality were Leland Jacobs (first), Vincent Calautti (second) and Bradyn Richardson (third); while craftsmanship awards went to Jacobs (first), Henry Barnett (second) and LaCasse (third).
