Gloucester teams take part in Lego League competition

Five robotics teams from Gloucester County Public Schools participated in the First Lego League Regional Qualifying Tournament held Nov. 3 at Crittenden Middle School in Newport News.

The 2012 Lego League challenge was called Senior Solutions and presented the robotics teams with different obstacles that senior citizens must deal with on a daily basis. The teams were judged in the robot table competition, teamwork, research and robot design.

The Botetourt Elementary School Bulldogs Team One received the robot table award for its division. The team included Jessica Munley, Sarah Starcher, Maggie Dye, Madi Junker, Taylor Fowler, Lauren Hartman, Olivia Rich, Bayleigh Albert, Elizabeth Dowell and Livvie Cohn and was coached by teacher Cindy Lanning and volunteer Steve Hartman.

The Botetourt Bulldogs Team Two brought home the core values award for sportsmanship. The team included Blake Hansford, Jake Hensley, Dylan Jaquysh, Chandler Dolan, Jared Fox, Landon Khoury, Justin Petersen, Edgar Plancarte, Andrew Linder and Domonic Delutish and was coached by teacher Susan Henk.
