Gloucester High School students celebrate Latin Week
Gloucester High School Latin students recently celebrated Latin Week with activities that culminated with an April 22 reception honoring their scores on the National Latin Exam. Parents were invited to attend the early morning awards ceremonies, which included the presentation of medals and certificates, and concluded with light refreshments.
Among Latin IV students, Gabriel Brown and Patrick Rice received summa cum laude gold medals, David Shields received a summa cum laude silver medal and Melisa Williamson received a magna cum laude certificate.
Among Latin III students, Aaron Reeves, Kayla McCuistion, Lauren Phelps, Stephen Sherrange and Cameron Cross received summa cum laude gold medals; D.J. Game, Caitlin Jamison, Shelley Brown, Rachel Shipley and Patrick Bains received maxima cum laude silver medals; and Morgan Pritchard, Emma Hepworth and Aaron O’Neil received magna cum laude certificates.
Among Latin II students, maxima cum laude silver medals went to John Northstein, Lee Siegle and Deborah Hanna; magna cum laude certificates were awarded to Dale Mathieu and Bridget Polk; and cum laude certificates were earned by Charlie Hardaway and Ainsley Short.
The students also conducted a "Roman baths" toiletries drive and will donate their collection to aid local tornado victims.
Among Latin I students, Matthew Holm, Jenna Reed, Casey Keller and Kathryn McCreary earned magna cum laude awards; Drew Anderson and Jacob Ewell received cum laude recognition.
