Girl Scout reunion to be held at Burke’s Mill Pond Saturday

The Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast will hold its fourth and final camp reunion of the year from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Burke’s Mill Pond in Gloucester.

These camp reunions are a chance for former campers and staff members to reconnect with one another and relive their camping days by singing songs, making s’mores, touring the camp and more.

Gloucester resident Sara Troxel is diligently to spread the word about the reunion and invite alumnae to attend. She has been putting up posters, making swaps, and recruiting volunteers to help out at the event. Troxel, a dedicated Girl Scout, claims that Burke’s Mill Pond has the best lake in the Colonial Coast Council.

Girl Scouting has been a part of her life since she signed up to be a Brownie in Pennsylvania in 1964. She’s been an active adult in Girl Scouting as well, serving as a day camp director since 2001, acting as a camp consultant, and representing local Girl Scouts as a Council delegate, along with various other leadership roles.

Troxel said her favorite thing about volunteering is the personal fulfillment she gets from doing something that matters. "I’m helping to change the world for the better, one girl at a time," she said.

A few years ago, Troxel earned the Honor Pin for her contributions to Girl Scouting through her volunteer work.

"It is so incredible watching and helping the girls and adult volunteers grow and learn and become confident in their abilities," she said. "It’s utterly amazing, terrifying, exhilarating, and wonder-filled."
