GHS students earn awards in science symposium
Gloucester High School sophomore Caitlin Cain received an honorable mention in microbiology and the Smith Shadomy Infectious Diseases Award in the annual Virginia Junior Academy of Science research symposium held May 22 at Virginia Tech.
The Shadomy Award included cash and a certificate. Cain’s research was titled "The Effect of Folk Remedies versus Ampicillin on E. coli Growth."
Also, GHS junior Wendy Sparrer took first place in environmental science with her research titled "The Relation of Imidachloprid to Colony Collapse Disorder in Apis millifera."
