The Gloucester County School Board received four letters from registered voters residing in the Gloucester Point Magisterial District who are interested in being considered for appointment to the vacant seat on the board. That seat was held for 24 years by Jean E. Pugh, who died in September.

The board received letters of interest from Troy M. Andersen, Stuart A. Bunting, Brian Nichols and Tracey Ellis Turner. The applicants were allowed to include letters of support from other registered voters in their district, and the deadline for making application was Friday.

Andersen, a Gloucester native and a parent of three children, has worked for the U.S. Department of Defense in various capacities for the last nine years. He recently received the Air Force Association’s Program Manager of the Year Award and in 2009 was the Air Combat Command’s William A. Jump Memorial Award recipient.

In his letter of application, Andersen said his work experience has led him to develop a multitude of capabilities that would make him an asset to the board. These include multi-tasking skills, calmness under pressure, budget development/implementation and consensus building.

Andersen pursued his undergraduate coursework at Randolph-Macon College and attended graduate school at Christopher Newport University. He has served as an alternate member of the Gloucester County Wetlands Board is currently the vice chairman of the Gloucester County Planning Commission.

Andersen’s application included letters of endorsement from Todd and Sandra Cooke, Michael P. and Donna B. Andersen, Rob and Becky Duncan, Stephanie R. Heinatz, Rudolph B. Heinatz III, Kristi Adams, John "Robbie" Belch, Jeremiah C. Legg, Katherine B. Legg, Christian L. Brumm, Jacqueline J. Hampton, Michael Harris, Robert Hansford, Brian Lawson, George W. Neal, Joni Neal and Charlotte B. Cecil.
