Forum Monday at Ware Academy on rising sea levels

Ware Academy will host the international research group Atlantic Rising at a free public forum at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The forum is part of the group’s four-day local stay during which its members will work with Ware students and spend time with Virginia Institute of Marine Science researchers.

Atlantic Rising is a small group of anthropological scientists on a 32,000-mile journey circumnavigating the Atlantic seaboard along the 1M contour line, which marks the level scientists predict sea levels may reach in the next 100 years.

Along its journey, the team is creating an educational network exchange for 15,000 students in low-lying coastal communities worldwide. It is also documenting what will be lost if the sea level predictions come true. Ware is one of the team’s 30 stops along the Atlantic Coast.

Atlantic Rising hopes its work will help the next generation understand their responsibility to each other to build a sustainable future. To reserve seats for the public forum, contact Ginger James at 693-3825 or gjames@wareacademy.org.
