Photo: Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue is marking Fire Prevention Week this week, which has the national theme of “Beep!, Beep!, Beep! Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With.” The week culminates with the volunteers hosting open house events from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Station One on Main Street, Station Six on Ark Road and Station Four on Dutton Road. The Virginia State Police and Gloucester Sheriff’s deputies will also be on hand for the event which includes displays, demonstrations and fire prevention and safety information. Earlier this week, volunteer firefighter Hunter Calloway, above, gave young children in the Gloucester Library Story Time group a close-up look at a fire truck. The children included three year-old Peyton Wilson who needs both hands to steady the adult- sized GVFD fire helmet. Photo by Kim Robins
