Lee Jackson’s fourth grade class at Lee-Jackson Elementary School in Mathews was the hands-down champion at collecting money to support juvenile diabetes research during a recent school-wide fund drive. According to school counselor Jenny John, who organized the fund campaign, Jackson’s class collected $1,440 of the $1,664 raised. Jackson said she thought her students were more determined than other classes because two of their classmates, Camden Gaskin, fourth row, second from left, and Tucker Moore, third row, left, have diabetes, and the students see their daily struggle with the disease. Classmates are, front from left, Madisyn Jackson, Lindsey Hudgins, Skylar Lewis, Mia Gillenwater, Maren Stevens; second row, Katie Johnson, Hannah John, Will Hutcheson, Victoria Bing, Shayla Wheeler; third row, Moore, Caroline Crittenden, Savannah Jenkins, Sarah Brown, Luke Mew; back row, Noah Lewis, Gaskins, Justin Sorey, Dylan Heimerich, Jonathan McCann, Alexa Husband, Morgan Buchanan and Autumn Hutson.
