Botetourt retains Math Bowl trophies
The first Gloucester County Public Schools Math Bowl for fourth and fifth grade students was a great success, according to coordinator Anne Petersen. Petersen said the competition was developed by GCPS match coaches to "inspire a love for mathematics as well as a bit of friendly competition."
Students competed in three member teams with each team competing in the areas of math facts, engineering and logic. An overall score was tabulated for each team.
The first- and second-place teams at both grade levels received medals and the winning school received a trophy. Botetourt Elementary School teams brought back both the fifth and fourth grade trophies.
Making the trophy sweep for Botetourt were fifth graders Christina Senter, Gwen Robins and Jeffrey Cho and fourth graders Bailey Danaher, Rilee Dalton and Sarah Teagle. Their math coach is Pam Cheresnowsky.
