Gloucester High School students were among the 1,600 Latin students who attended the Virginia Junior Classical League Convention in Richmond in November.
School personnel changes
The Virginia Education Association announced it has awarded a $200,000 grant to support the Virginia Public Radio news project for 2011 and 2012.
The special education department of Gloucester Public Schools will conduct free screenings for preschool children ages two to five from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Botetourt Elementary School.
Student winners were announced in the Mathews County Woman’s Club’s Literary Contest.
A three-session course on “Gloucester County and Progressive Movements” will be held on consecutive Thursday afternoons next month at the Gloucester Library.
The Kiwanis Club of Middlesex (which also serves the students of Mathews County) presented two monthly awards to recognize outstanding Mathews High School seniors for the fall semester.
Hussam S. Timani, assistant professor of religious and Islamic studies at Christopher Newport University, will speak on the subject of Islam on three consecutive Fridays, Feb. 4, 11 and 18, from 1-3 p.m. at the Gloucester Main Library.
