Letter: You’re invited to the opening of your library’s addition
This Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m., the citizens of Mathews will celebrate the opening of the new addition to the Mathews Memorial Library. The H. Bland Hudgins, M.D. Wing will be dedicated during a brief program. Cub Scout Pack 124 and Boy Scout Troop 124 will present the colors and music will be provided by the Mathews High School Chorus and Strings and Things. Refreshments will be served and tours conducted of the new facility. Attendees will receive a memento of the occasion.
The new library wing offers expanded opportunities and increased tools for exploration and discovery. A Teen Territory, additional reading and computing areas and a community meeting room are focal points of the new construction along with a soon-to-be-completed community courtyard adjoining the Mathews Information and Visitor Center and the Historical Society’s James Store.
This is your library. You have contributed the funds for bricks and mortar that have made the main building and now the addition possible. More importantly, you are the spirit of the library. You bring energy and enthusiasm to the library and are part of its robust public programs. You make the library a diverse and inclusive community committed to serving all the citizens of Mathews and responding to the public’s needs.
On Saturday we are not only celebrating the dedication of a new wing, we are celebrating you, the people of Mathews, and all you have contributed to make this dream a reality. Thank you. We are grateful.
This is your library, so please join us. All are welcome.
