Letter: Winebarger for Petsworth supervisor
Gloucester County needs an honest, straightforward supervisor committed to working with both county stakeholders—residents and local businesses—and our board of supervisors toward: 1.) improving county services, reputation and regulations; 2.) facilitating improved private sector services and employment opportunities in our county; and, 3.) improving county financial management.
Mike Winebarger, a Gloucester resident for 40 years and local small business owner for 34 years, has worked with and knows our county and its challenges. Local government organizations need to manage their domain much like private sector businesses based on county cost of operations/investment and value of county performance to stakeholders. Mike Winebarger recognizes that Gloucester County should follow aspects of the private sector business model. The county board of supervisors is our board of directors—responsible for assuring that our county organizations and related employees understand their areas of responsibility and are efficient and responsive in executing those responsibilities. Periodic performance reviews at the activity (lead), function (lead) and county (board of supervisors) levels are critical to improve internal business processes; identify and correct process redundancy; identify opportunities to reorganize toward process, cost and performance improvement; access viability of county facilities and take corrective action where necessary; and review/audit financial activity to assure compliance.
Mike Winebarger’s goals as Petsworth supervisor are: strengthen stakeholder participation in county management, improve county organization performance at decreased cost, and improve communications between county management and county stakeholders.
As a relatively new resident of Gloucester County, and recent private sector retiree, I look forward to working with Mike Winebarger, the board of supervisors and county residents to improve our county. I look forward to voting for the "right Mike"—Mike Winebarger.
