Letter: Whose laws do we respect?
For years, many of America’s young have been raised with the idea that they are free to make and to live by their own rules, that our laws only applied to others and that it was unfair or unjust to expect them to respect laws that weren’t established by them!
As a parent and grandparent, I understand the challenge in raising children, but I don’t understand the reason for supporting disrespect of the laws and rules that strengthen society by providing order rather than chaos.
Our nation would not have survived if our citizens had believed that "the pursuit of happiness" meant you were free of responsibility and that our laws were not worthy of respect. Teaching respect for God’s laws and teachings would provide a brighter view of life for our children and for all of us. It worked at our nation’s beginning and it will now. Those who think our Constitution excludes Him need to read it again because His teachings are woven into the freedoms we have.
