A typical day of golf may be worth $35, $50 or even $100; but this was not a typical day. This special day of golf was held on Oct. 30 at Eaglewood Golf Course, Langley Air Force Base, Hampton.

It was a golf tournament organized by the Children’s Christmas Fund, the purpose of which was raising funds to assist underprivileged children at Christmas. This year’s net proceeds was the largest amount since the organization began four years ago.

After the tournament, the Children’s Christmas Fund contacted local schools, churches and some assistance organizations to get names of children who may need help this year. Upon receiving the names of 43 children located in Gloucester, Mathews and Newport News, shoppers were sent out to purchase clothes and gifts for each of them. These gifts were then delivered to the various organizations for the families.

The Children’s Christmas Fund is extremely thankful to all the local citizens and businesses who participated in this "Christmas Begins in October" event.
