Letter: Walking for a cure
I would like to thank the many friends, family and businesses that supported myself and Niki Brown in our efforts to raise money to find a cure for breast cancer. Without you, we couldn’t have far exceeded our goal and raised $6,300.
Our efforts all culminated on Oct. 10, 11 and 12 when we turned in the funds and participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure—a 60-mile, three-day walk through Washington, D.C., and Maryland.
Our fundraising started at Damon’s Grill on Memorial Weekend with BikeFest. Thank you to all who attended, and especially to Damon Horsley for being so kind.
Juan Carillo of Juan’s Café and Cantina hosted a fundraising night where 10 percent of sales were donated to our efforts.
And, for the third year in a row, Chesapeake Bank stepped up and served as the corporate sponsor for our team. Thank you, Melissa Crawford and Steve Callis, for your generosity and support of such an important cause.
October is the official month for breast cancer awareness and organizations and businesses came out in full force with education, pink ribbons and support.
Let’s make every month breast cancer awareness month. Every month we should remind those we love about the importance of an annual mammogram. Birthday months are the easiest time to ask about having this screening.
Thank you again for love and support.
