Letter: Tooting their own horn
Have you or anyone else been to the Mathews home football games recently? Well, if you haven’t you have really missed something great! Not only has our Mathews High team won; the band was outstanding as well! Congratulations to our team and a big "Thank You" to their coaches, Paul White, Tommy Dutton, Raymond Ewell and Willie Love. We appreciate all of your hard work and dedication to our athletes. As for the band, well, they have really come a long way. The last two halftime shows were fantastic. We have two great band directors that have joined the Mathews school district last year. They have really worked hard and it has shown. Wayne Fillingim is the high school band director and Courtney Smith is the Thomas Hunter band director. You may want to consider attending a concert and hear how well they are doing. I promise that you will not be disappointed. We would like to give a big "Thank You" to our band directors. Your hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed and we really appreciate all that you have done.
Since our band has no outside funding, they have had to come up with ways to raise money to support the band. We would like to let those who have supported past fundraisers know how much it is appreciated and encourage greater community support. We cannot do this without you. With only a few home games left we hope that you will join us and cheer on our team and stomp your feet with our band. Bring the family!
