Letter: The real ‘War on Women’
Yesterday I took a shortcut through Walmart and found myself in front of a display of bras sized for girls barely out of diapers! Although I did a double take, it wasn’t until later that I really contemplated its significance in what I believe is the real "War on Women."
I reflected on the recent debates where Democrat candidates continually chant "Extremists" to their opponents who oppose abortions. I thought of Democrat Nancy Pelosi, a Catholic, recently declaring her support for late-term abortions as "sacred ground!" During the last presidential campaign, she arranged a press conference for Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke to castigate the Republicans for not mandating that the private Catholic institution make free contraceptives available to students in spite of the church’s long-standing opposition to them.
I thought of Miley Cyrus’s disgustingly lewd performance being shown over and over on television sets that sit in homes of even conscientious parents who are trying to raise moral children. My heart cried for little girls whose psyche is being assaulted by a sick culture where her body parts are considered her primary interest and resource. During the last presidential election, Democrats even ran a campaign telling young women to "Vote with your lady parts!"
This "War on Women" is being waged by Godless liberals, but too often facilitated by wayward or spineless Believers, especially those called "clergy," who are afraid to confront those who have gone astray or who say God did not mean what the Bible says.
Girls and women have an important role to play in society. God has equipped us with the mental, physical and spiritual components necessary to fulfill this mission. We need to replace the current liberal culture with one that respects, values, empowers and promotes the true value of every girl and woman in God’s divine plan. Ken Cuccinelli and E.W. Jackson, Republican candidates for governor and lieutenant governor, promote those attitudes. If they are "extreme," I hope for women’s sake and God’s sake that the majority never stops being "extreme!"
