Letter: Thanks for supporting The Thrifty Spot
On Dec. 8, The Thrifty Spot, a transition-to-work, on-site job training program for students with special needs, opened its doors to the community and Mathews residents came! Mathews High School Special Education staff Cathy Walker, Vera Dotson, Deborah Silvus, Deborah Johnson and Theresa Sumner, along with principal David Malechek, and I want to thank you, the Mathews community, for your overwhelming support of the thrift shop! You have donated abundantly and shopped regularly! Your support provides the opportunity for our students with disability to learn valuable vocational skills in preparation for jobs in the county upon graduation. For that, we are most grateful.
For those of you not familiar, we extend an invitation to donate and shop. The Thrifty Spot, at 410 Cricket Hill Road, is operated by students with disabilities under the guidance of MHS special education staff. The shop offers for sale slightly used clothing, housewares, small pieces of furniture, books, and student-created crafts. Hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Thank you for your support!
