Letter: Thankful for the miracle of everyday blessings

Posted on Nov 20, 2012 - 12:27 PM Printer Friendly View

I’m thankful I woke up this morning. I’m thankful I heard the alarm ringing and saw the sun shining. I’m thankful I smelled coffee brewing and felt a soft comforter on my bed. I’m thankful I walked across the room unassisted. I’m thankful I turned on clear running water and felt heat in the house. I’m thankful I ate a healthy breakfast with my loving husband, surrounded by beloved pets. I’m thankful I put on clean clothing and a warm jacket. I’m thankful I got in a car that started and drove a short distance through no traffic. I’m thankful I entered my workplace and greeted people I care about, who care about me. I’m thankful I spent my day surrounded by sweet, eager children. I’m thankful I came home and chatted with neighbors, who are also friends. I’m thankful for these seemingly small things that make up my "typical" day, which are really blessings.

There are people who don’t hear, see, walk, or make it through the night. There are people who don’t have water, heat, or even a home. There are people who don’t have food, clothing, or transportation. There are people who don’t have love and companionship. There are people who don’t have jobs or purpose.

I’m thankful for my everyday blessings as well as my wonderful, caring husband, children and extended family; my supportive friends; my warm, welcoming church and community; my health; my country and freedom; and most of all God who provided it all.
