Letter: Thankful for a supportive community
Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I am writing to thank the Mathews Library and the merchants of Mathews Court House for the Halloween party held on the afternoon of Oct. 31. The children, my granddaughter Adelle (age 6) and I among them, were led around the Court House by a library employee to the stores and county offices who warmly welcomed us with generous treats. Afterwards, we returned to the library for games and more treats.
Having the opportunity to visit the library more often, I have noticed how receptive the library staff is to after-school visits by teenagers and younger children, too. The expansion for the teen center next door will be a welcome addition and Mrs. Dillehay and the staff are to be commended. This past summer, the library also had interesting, informative activities for the children.
Thanks also to Mathews Baptist Church (Old Baptist) for their "trick ‘n’ trunk" activity on Oct. 31. What better places for children on Halloween than the library and church?
Mathews County residents are fortunate to have the library, Bay School Community Arts Center, Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, churches and other organizations who volunteer and support their children.
Congratulations, Gazette-Journal, on 75 years of excellent service.
