Editor, Gazette-Journal:

It was a distinct pleasure and privilege for us to host the recent Virginia High School League Group A state golf championship, featuring 72 high school boy and girl golfers from high schools across the commonwealth, with solid representation from the Middle Peninsula. Including parents, grandparents, friends, coaches, spotters, scorers and VSGA/VHSL officials, there were over 350 in attendance for the two-day event. The event featured both team and individual competition.

It required much dedication on the part of many volunteers to stage such a competition. On behalf of our staff and ownership, we want to thank the VHSL committee, as well as Middlesex High School Golf Coach Greg Harrow and Athletic Director Brad Norris for their diligence in managing the event. To Kelly Lowe and the many volunteers, scorers, spotters and support team members, we express our enthusiastic thanks.

To witness the exemplary manners and positive demeanor of such a fine group of student-athletes was truly inspiring. Again, thanks to all who participated.
