Letter: Sentara and the YMCA: A dynamic duo
When individuals in our community are confronted each and every day with conditions that affect their family life, their ability to work and their capacity to enjoy even the most routine activity, where can they turn?
Fortunately (what many may not realize), there is a partnership that is helping improve the quality of lives in our community. That partnership is between the Mathews Family YMCA and Sentara Mathews Physical Therapy.
I never wanted to be so knowledgeable about physical therapy and rehabilitation, but I have always been an avid sportswoman and recreational athlete. Throughout my life, I have benefitted from many YMCA programs. Two of my children introduced me to the world of rehabilitation by spending months at Children’s Hospital of Richmond as they received therapy. After that, I spent years as a volunteer in their therapy department.
Following those introductions to therapy, I have had six joints replaced and have accompanied my elderly father as he needed physical therapy. Mathews Sentara Physical Therapy is as good as or better than what I have encountered elsewhere. We are so fortunate to have such a warm, friendly staff along with the highest quality therapists right here in Mathews.
How does the Y fit in with Sentara Physical Therapy? There is a dedicated partnership between the two, lifting the physical care of our community.
Through this partnership, a therapy patient is given 30 days free membership to the YMCA. The physical therapist introduces the patient to an exercise program at the YMCA that will strengthen and support physical improvements.
The personal fitness instructors at the YMCA continue guidance for your exercise program. This dynamic duo is dedicated to lifting the health and physical well-being of our community. The YMCA and Sentara have an incredible impact on people’s lives. A new facility, which houses both the YMCA and Sentara, is most desirable. When this happens, our community will continue to benefit and support this dynamic duo.
I feel so lucky to have this partnership nurturing our community. I thank Sentara and the Y for my improved health and look forward to a bigger and better future.
