Letter: Re-elect President Obama
Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I find it amazing that some people feel President Obama is not worthy of a second term, while George Bush was re-elected despite lying us and our allies into a senseless and devastating war which caused the death of thousands and the crippling of tens of thousands of American troops, the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis, borrowed a trillion dollars from China to wage the Iraq war and the one he began in Afghanistan, and left the economy in free fall.
Now, Romney, who has mastered the art of flip-flopping and who bullied, shouted down and showed outrageous disrespect to the President of the United States, says "trust me." He says he’ll give everyone a "bucket" into which they could put their income tax deductions up to $17,000. During the second debate, the "bucket" went up to $25,000. What happens if the bucket goes down to $10,000 or even zero after he’s elected? He further screws the middle class.
Don’t forget that the wealthy have had 12 years of huge tax cuts. The Republicans said lower taxes would create jobs, but where are the jobs? Instead of blaming the private sector for not hiring, President Obama gets the blame. Perhaps more and bigger tax cuts for the millionaires and billionaires will somehow work their magic. Yeah, right. He wants seniors to shop for health insurance with vouchers, which would be a really cruel joke to play on old people.
And most stunningly of all, suddenly and overnight, he cares for 100 percent of the people. What a fantastic transformation! Which Romney can you believe? Which one can you trust?
And yet President Obama, who brought the economy back from the financial abyss created by Bush and his policies (remember that it took a decade to recover from the Great Depression), gave the order to kill Bin Laden, rescued the auto industry, stopped home foreclosures, defends women’s rights, created an agency to protect consumers, repealed "don’t ask, don’t tell," has lived with the ugliest and most scurrilous attacks without ever showing the world that he is angry or hurt, and for all the other good things he has done, too numerous to list here, somehow doesn’t deserve a second term?
President Obama has a track record and, and a good one, is competent and strong, and deserves to be re-elected.
