Letter: Quality education is occurring every day
With all of the serious budget issues Gloucester County and the school board have to deal with I think maybe sometimes the fabulous successes of the school system get missed. While the school board and board of supervisors may spar over the size of a gym in a new school, they have not lost sight of what is important.
A group of students at GHS have an opportunity to travel to California for a robotics team world championship and the school board enthusiastically backed these students. The public may not know it but students at GHS are a powerhouse in Virginia in the area of robotics. Our students are being educated and prepared for technology jobs with leading industries through-out the world. Regional industries are taking note of where quality STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) graduates are being produced.
Don’t let the publicity that skirmishes over construction details mislead you about what is important in Gloucester County schools. Quality education is occurring every day in our schools and our students’ success in areas such as robotics competitions is a good indicator of their capability. These students are ready for the technology jobs that will be waiting for them when they graduate.
It is through the support of the parents, school board, school administration and area supporters that a successful program has been built. The citizens of Gloucester County are fortunate to have leaders of the county and school system that don’t take their eye off the ball. What is important is a quality education for every student and everyone is working hard to make that happen.
I encourage everyone to tell your supervisors and school board members that you support what they are doing. A pat on the back for a job well done is in order.
