My wife Pat and I went to Richmond last Saturday to watch our Mathews High School girls play for their second volleyball state title in as many years. The match went to the fifth game and Mathews won 16 to 14 in what was probably the most exciting volleyball game that I have ever seen! My old heart can’t take that much excitement anymore. The whole match was a seesaw battle and many times I thought that the Mathews girls would go home empty-handed, but they would not accept defeat and came back and won it all! Mathews residents should be extremely proud of what their girls accomplished. I know that Pat and I are.
