Letter: Plan now
Gallows humor must be assigned to the article listed under Coming Events ("Gloucester planners to consider code amendment for Main Street businesses," Aug. 15 issue).
The article’s needle-in-a-haystack references the prohibition of storage units that are portable. The prohibition is a county regulation slowly receiving attention. Some planners’ thoughts are to amend the regulation to allow portable storage units for emergency purposes.
Some readers are aware that the Virginia Department of Emergency Management’s website continues (present tense) to alert the public that we are in hurricane season. The Gazette-Journal article references the Gloucester Planning Commission’s Sept. 5 meeting (future tense).
May I suggest that matters concerning emergency preparedness be assigned accelerated efforts of the county?
Gloucester County fields high-quality and dedicated management and staff to address the various perils of life. September meetings impede solutions needed immediately.
"Plan now" is also current tense.
